Where they started

Span had a working product and a team that knew what they were building. The problem was not capability, it was legibility. The UI and UX had grown with the product rather than being designed for it, and the result was software that did more than it appeared to. Users had to work to find what was already there.

What they had already tried

There was no failed agency here. Span had their own team, and they were good. What they did not have was someone whose whole job was the shape of the product. That is a different kind of gap, and it does not get solved by hiring another pair of hands.

What we did

We did not arrive with a process and hand over files at the end. We worked inside their team, closely and daily, and treated their engineers and product people as the people who would live with these decisions long after we left.

We rebuilt the design system from the ground up, then redesigned the product surface against it: the core pages, and the logic of how features present themselves to a user.

The change that mattered most was the smallest to describe. We rethought the sidebar navigation. On paper that is one component. In practice it is the spine of the product, and reworking it changed how the entire thing felt to use.

What changed

The product stopped hiding its own capability. Same software, same features, now legible at a glance.

Span raised a twenty five million dollar round not long after. That was their team’s work, and they had strong marketing behind it. We were one part of a bigger effort, and we were glad to be in the room for it.

“I had the pleasure of working with Emir for two months. He played a big role in helping us flesh out our design system components. He had extreme attention to detail, a high visual craft bar, and was very receptive to feedback of any kind. One thing I particularly appreciated was his proactivity with exploring things beyond what he was asked. This led to us considering concepts that we otherwise would not have. I highly recommend him!”
